UK To Lift All International Travel Restrictions In February

In a speech to the Commons on 24 January, the Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps announced that international travel restrictions will be lifted from 11 February, which is hoped to provide a last solution to the disruption to the travel and tourism industry caused by the pandemic.

In a GOV.UK press release, Shapps said that due to the right calls being made concerning the vaccine and booster rollout. It is now possible to remove nearly all of the COVID-19 travel restrictions for vaccinated travellers from 4 am on 11 February

“This final step in our stale and safe full return to international travel is a major boost for U.K. tourism, setting Britain free ahead of the crucial half term and spring holiday season,” he said.

There will be an easing of travel restrictions for unvaccinated passengers too from the same date, and according to the latest rules, travellers identifying as unvaccinated will be required to take a pre-departure test and a PCR test on or before the second day after arrival in the UK.

The announcement is expected to provide a lasting solution to the disruption that COVID-19 has caused to tourism and business in the United Kingdom.

The government will also include 16 more countries and territories including China and Mexico in the list of recognised vaccine certificates. This will bring the total number of recognised vaccine certificates to 180. All South Asian countries are included in the list.
